CHICAGO – Three members of the University of Chicago women's tennis team were awarded with All-American honors by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday.
Sophomore Lauren Park garnered ITA All-American status in singles. The previous day, she was a First Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) singles honoree as well. Playing at the top of the Maroon lineup, Park posted a team-best record of 17-4. She won the ITA Central Region singles title and advanced to the semifinals of the national ITA Cup draw.
The first-year combo of Perene Wang and Claudia Ng became All-Americans in doubles. Wang/Ng were 19-2 on the season playing at the No. 1 position. They won the ITA Central Region doubles championship and later reached the ITA Cup quarterfinals. On Tuesday, the duo was also picked First Team All-UAA.
In UChicago women's tennis history, 15 Maroons have earned 41 total All-American awards.
To receive ITA All-America distinction, a player must achieve one of the following benchmarks:
- Finish in the Top 20 in the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Singles Rankings
- Finish in the Top 10 in the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Doubles Rankings
- Win ITA Fall Regional Tournament
- Win a first-round match at the ITA National Small College Championships (ITA Cup)
