KENOSHA, Wis. – The University of Chicago track and field teams excelled at the Private College Invitational on Saturday with a first-place showing on the women's side and a second-place showing on the men's side.
On the women's side, the Maroons dominated the 11-team field with 177.33 points. Host Carthage College was second with 99 points. UChicago won eight events on the day, including two wins by Pam Yu. The junior won the long jump with a leap of 5.56 meters and the triple jump with a leap of 10.67 meters.
The Maroons took the top three places in the 400 meters and all three racers finished within 0.25 seconds of each other. Junior Francesca Tomasi picked up the win in a time of 1:01.43. UChicago also swept the top five in the 800 meters, led by sophomore Brianna Hickey's winning time of 2:22.83. In the 3,000 meters, junior Nissa Mai outpaced the competition by 55 seconds with a time of 11:24.96.
On the men's side, UChicago took second (98.5 points) behind Carthage (173 points). Junior Kevin On won the 3,000-meter race with a time of 8:59.64. Freshman Nicholas Nielsen earned the second Maroons victory of the day with a time of 2:00.38 in the 800 meters.
