WALTHAM, Mass. – The University of Chicago women's track and field team came away with the team title while the men's squad finished sixth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
In the final standings, UChicago's women topped the seven-team field with 140 points. Emory University took second with 103.5 points. The Maroons were sixth in the men's draw with 44 points, while Washington University-St. Louis won with 160 points.
The Maroons were victorious in five events on the women's half over the weekend, including four wins on Saturday. UChicago grabbed the top two spots in two different events. Junior Pam Yu won the triple jump with a leap of 11.06 meters while freshman teammate Olivia Clink was runner-up at 10.82 meters. Sophomore Nkemdilim Nwaokolo added a title in the shot put (12.14 meters) after winning the hammer throw on Friday. Junior Reecie Dern was second in the shot put with a heave of 11.83 meters.
Freshman Michelle Dobbs earned her first career title in the 800 meters. Her time of 2:16.73 edged the runner-up from Emory by a mere 0.56 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team (sophomore Alison Pildner, senior Jennie Porter, junior Franscesca Tomasi, sophomore Mikaela Hammel) also claimed victory in 3:58.44.
On the men's side, UChicago earned one win as sophomore Michael Bennett successfully defended his title in the pole vault with a height of 4.80 meters.
