UChicago track and field competes at day one of Chicagolands

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The University of Chicago track and field teams netted seven top-six finishes at the first day of the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships on Friday.

On the women's side, the Maroons currently rank fifth out of 18 teams with 20 points. Host school Lewis University leads the way with 71 points. UChicago's men are 10th out of 18 teams with 14 points. Lewis paces the field with 61 points.

Sophomore Nkemdilim Nwaokolo posted the top results of the day for the Maroons in her throwing events. She finished second in the hammer throw (47.53 meters) and sixth in the shot put (11.73 meters). Senior Sarah Peluse also impressed with a sixth place in the 5,000 meters (17:53.08), making her the highest Division III placer in the event as Division I Northwestern University took the top five spots.

Senior Daniel Povitsky was UChicago's top finisher for the men. Povitsky was runner-up in the 5,000 meters (14:54.66) and freshman teammate Gareth Jones finished sixth in the race (15:06.91).

Both the men's and women's 4x800-meter relays placed sixth as well.
