UChicago track and field teams both finish second at Wheaton Twilight meet

WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Chicago track and field teams both placed second at the Wheaton College Don Church Twilight meet on Thursday.

North Central College tallied 283 points to top the men's field of eight teams while UChicago was runner-up with 118.50 points. On the women's side, North Central won with 162.50 points and UChicago was second with 137 points in nine-team field.

The Maroons won three men's and three women's events on the evening. The senior duo of Samuel Butler and Evan Jin went one-two in the 3,000 meters as Butler recorded the lead time of 8:55.66. Sophomore Michael Bennett won the pole vault once again with a height of 4.90 meters. He is currently undefeated in the pole vault in 2014. Sophomore Liam Ward was victorious in the triple jump with a leap of 13.07 meters, which topping the runner-up by 0.77 meters.

Sophomore Catherine Young dominated the field in the 3,000 meters, winning by 16.9 seconds (10:26.70). Fellow sophomore Nkemdilim Nwaokolo continued her strong throwing season with a victory in the discus (40.61 meters). The 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Michelle Dobbs, freshman Eleanor Kang, junior Francesca Tomasi and sophomore Mikaela Hammel posted a winning time of 3:57.80.
