UChicago women’s track and field wins Windy City Rumble while men finish second

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago women's track and field team ran past the competition to win the Windy City Rumble and the men's team came in as a close second on Saturday.

UChicago's women were first out of 11 teams with 119 points scored. Loyola University was runner-up with 86 points. On the men's side, the Maroons took second of 10 teams with 158 points, while Valparaiso University won with 165 points.

The women's squad picked up two wins on the day. Senior thrower Nkemdilim Nwaokolo tossed the furthest weight throw at 16.28 meters. The 4x400-meter relay was also victorious in 3:58.87, which was comprised of senior Alison Pildner, freshman Alexandra Thompson, senior Rebecca Askins-Gast and freshman Emma Koether.

A quartet of women placed as runners-up in their events. Koether ran the 400 meters in 59.37 and senior Brianna Hickey finished the 800 meters in 2:18.32. In the field events, sophomore Angel Fluet reached a height of 3.37 meters in the pole vault and sophomore Vivian Barclay leapt 5.16 meters in the long jump.

Three Maroon men garnered wins on Saturday afternoon. Junior Temisan Osowa won the 60 meters (7.14), senior Jacob Romeo got the victory in the 200 meters (23.06) and sophomore Will Ackerman triumphed in the 60-meter hurdles (8.74).

Seven events featured second-place finishes for UChicago. Romeo was right behind Osowa in the 60 meters (7.22) and Ackerman posted a height of 1.86 meters in the high jump. Other runners-up included junior Gareth Jones in the one mile (4:26.07), senior Henry Blood in the 3,000 meters (9:02.39), freshman John Judge in the 5,000 meters (16:30.81) and junior Andrew Maneval in the shot put (14.72 meters). The distance medley relay also recorded a time of 10:38.73 with sophomore Jacob Amiri, freshman Benjamin Chaimberg, junior Nicholas Nielsen and sophomore Peter Kreuch.
