CHICAGO – The University of Chicago track and field squads swept the team titles at the two-day Windy City Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
UChicago's women were first of 13 teams with 182 points. Loyola University placed second with 78 points. The Maroon men topped the 12-team field with 117.5 points while Valparaiso University was second with 84 points.
Six different women picked up wins for the hosts. The freshman class was well represented with four winners – Alisha Harris in the 60 meters, Isabel Garon in the pole vault, Mary Martin in the long jump and Laura Darcey in the pentathlon. Juniors Ade Ayoola and Cassidy McPherson were first in the high jump and the 800 meters, respectively.
On the men's side, the Maroons had four individual victories. Senior Andrew Maneval led the shot put, senior Nick Nielsen captured the mile and junior Nathan Downey was first across the finish line in the 200 meters. Junior Will Ackerman topped the heptathlon by 754 points. The men's 4x400-meter relay also accounted for a first-place finish on the day.
