WALTHAM, Mass. – The University of Chicago track and field teams snagged a pair of first-place finishes at day one of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
The Maroon women accounted for both of the individual wins. Junior Khia Kurtenbach was across the line in the 5,000 meters in 17:22.45. Kurtenbach captured the event for the second-straight year and posted a winning margin of more than four seconds. Freshman Alisha Harris was victorious in the long jump for her first career UAA title. Her best leap of 5.33 meters was the top mark by 0.12 meters.
Other women's All-UAA selections included freshman Mary Martin in the long jump (third) and the distance medley relay (third) of junior Megan Verner-Crist, junior Olivia Cattau, sophomore Jenna McKinney and senior Madeleine Horvath.
UChicago's men recorded an All-UAA finish in the distance medley relay, which took third in 10:09.12. The relay quartet included senior Jeremy Ferguson, sophomore Ben Chaimberg, sophomore Owen Melia and senior Nick Nielsen.
