CHICAGO – Three members of the University of Chicago track & field teams were selected Athletes of the Week by the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday.
In women's track, Nicole VacaGuzman's record-breaking performance was recognized by the UAA. The junior bettered her own school record in the 400 meters with a time of 55.92 at the North Central College Gregory Invitational. That time makes her the eighth seed in the event at the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships.
The UAA honor in women's field was bestowed upon Alexandra Thompson. The junior made the most of NCC's last-chance meet with a seasonal-best high jump of 1.68 meters. The mark allowed her to qualify for the NCAA Championships as the No. 10 seed.
Nathan Downey received the UAA's weekly accolade in men's field. The senior went to the Augustana College meet for one more opportunity to move up the rankings to get into NCAAs. He delivered with a top height of 4.91 meters. Downey will travel to the national meet as the No. 12 seed in the event.
