Maroon Women’s Track & Field Wins Pat Heenan Invite, Men Finish Third

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's track and field team turned in a complete team performance to win North Central College's Pat Heenan Invitational on Friday. The Maroon men finished third in the team scoring.

UChicago's women topped the 10-team field with 169.50 points, beating out host North Central's 140.50 points. On the men's half, North Central led the way with 206 points and the Maroons were third with 89 points.

The Maroons tallied an impressive seven victories. Junior Mary Martin placed in the top three in a trio of events. She ran the anchor leg on the winning 4x400-meter relay alongside first-year Meg Fitzpatrick, senior Emma Koether and first-year Kaela Jolibois (3:56.72). Martin also took third in both the long jump and 200 meters.

First-year Isabel Maletich submitted big marks in the jumps – she was first in the long jump at 5.60 meters and second in the triple jump at 11.51 meters. UChicago swept through the distance races with sophomore Emma Dyer in the one mile (5:08.94), sophomore Sophie Elgamal in the 3,000 meters (10:11.57) and sophomore Annika Hildebrandt in the 5,000 meters (18:47.67).

The women's pole vault saw two Maroons tie at 3.50 meters, with junior Isabel Garon finishing first and sophomore Sidney Lampert taking second. Fitzpatrick was a multi winner in the 4x400-meter relay and 400 meters (59.16).

UChicago's men captured two wins on the day, which included a photo finish in the 3,000 meters. Sophomore Chase Gardner won the aforementioned race by a mere 0.03 seconds over sophomore teammate Ryan Cutter, as the Maroons captured the top three placements.

The men's 4x400-meter relay was also victorious (3:24.63), with contributions from junior Tyson Miller, junior Elliott Paintsil, senior Ben Chaimberg and first-year Dillon O'Loughlin.
