Maletich Captures Long Jump Title; Maroon Women Second After Day 1 of UAAs

ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Chicago women's track & field team stood just eight points back from leader WashU after Day 1 of the University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships, bolstered by a event title from first-year Isabel Maletich.

Maletich – the 2019 NCAA Division III Champion in the indoor long jump – was victorious in the conference outdoor long jump with a leap of 5.70 meters. The Maroons excelled in the event, with junior teammate Laura Darcey taking second (5.63) and Mary Martin sixth (5.28).

Sophomore Zoe Smith claimed all-UAA honors with her third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:45.69) and teammates Abigail Shoemaker (second) and Claire Brockway (third) joined her league honors with their stellar performances in the 10,000 meters.

The 4x800 relay team of Kaitlyn Van Baalen, Maddie DeVoe, Emma Dyer and Nicole VacaGuzman finished third to earn a spot on the podium and notable finishes also included fourth-place marks by Tinyan Dada (shot put), Isabel Garon (pole vault) and Maggie Boudreau (10,000).

In the track prelims, the Maroon women send seven runners into Sunday's finals, led by Martin (second in the 200, third in the 100); Nicole VacaGuzman (second in the 800) and Maddie DeVoe (third in the 800).
