Maroon Track & Field Competes at Wartburg Final Qualifier

WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Chicago track and field teams looked to improve their marks for a last crack at qualifying for the NCAA national meet at Saturday's Wartburg College Final Qualifier.

The UChicago women's 4x400-meter relay stood out on the day with a school-record time of 3:53.12. With that mark, the relay of sophomore Meg Fitzpatrick, first-year Aleeza Hassan, first-year Isabel Layne and senior Mary Martin broke into the top 10 in NCAA Division III.

The women's distance medley relay also submitted a top 10 time in the nation at 11:55.16 with the quartet of sophomore Kaitlyn Van Baalen, Martin, first-year Maya Ordonez and junior Sophie Elgamal.

Van Baalen broke the five-minute mark in the women's one mile to move into the nation's top 15 time. She finished second in 4:59.97.

The men's DMR made a big leap forward as well with a national top 10 time of 10:08.28. The relay included junior Will Shine, sophomore Wilson Hansen, junior Kiyan Tavangar and junior Ryan Cutter.
