CHICAGO – University of Chicago's Isabel Maletich and Justin McQuality were both feted with regional awards for the indoor season from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.
Maletich was named the Midwest Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year. The sophomore jumper owns the top marks in the nation in both the triple jump (12.58 meters) and long jump (5.93 meters). That triple jump mark ranks as the fifth-best in NCAA Division III history. She was previously named the University Athletic Association's Indoor Most Outstanding Performer (Field Events) in early March.
McQuality received Midwest Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year accolades. Now in his second year on the UChicago staff, he coaches the No. 1-rated long jump and the No. 2-rated pole vault groups in the nation. Three of those Maroons will be in action at this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships – Maletich (long jump and triple jump), senior Laura Darcey (high jump and pentathlon) and senior Isabel Garon (pole vault). They've set new school records this season in all five of those events.
