ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The 16th-ranked University of Chicago volleyball team split two matches Saturday at the University Athletic Association Round Robin, defeating Brandeis University in three sets before falling in four sets to second-ranked Washington (Mo.) University.
Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Clark (Purcellville, Va./ Loudon Valley) led a balanced attack as Chicago defeated Brandeis (7-12 overall, 0-4 UAA) 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 in Saturday's first match.
Clark hit five kills, while six other Maroons collected four. Junior libero Samantha Brown (Louisville, Ky./ Mercy Academy) served six aces -- the most by a Chicago player this season -- and had 11 digs.
Chicago then dropped a 22-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 decision to second-ranked and undefeated Washington (22-0, 4-0). The Maroons' first set win halted Washington's NCAA Division III record consecutive sets won streak at 63.
Senior outside hitter Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) (pictured) led the Maroons (21-3, 3-2) with 10 kills.
Chicago wraps up UAA Round Robin play Sunday with matches against New York University and Carnegie Mellon University.
