ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- University of Chicago Head Volleyball Coach Vanessa Walby earned her 100th career victory as the 16th-ranked Maroons won a pair of matches on the final day of the University Athletic Association Round Robin Sunday at the University of Rochester.
Chicago improved to 23-3 on the season to raise Walby's four-year record to 100-46.
The Maroons finished UAA Round Robin competition with a 5-2 mark to claim the #3 seed at the Nov. 4-5 conference championship tournament at New York University.
Chicago hit at a season-best .444 clip as it began the day with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-12 win over NYU (15-10, 2-4).
Senior out Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) led the Maroons with eight kills, while freshman outside hitter Morgan Barry (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./ University) hit seven kills in eight attempts without an error.
Junior middle blocker Katie Trela (Glencoe, Ill./ Regina Dominican) and sophomore middle blocker Maggie Vaughn (Houston, Texas/ Lamar) each collected four blocks.
The Maroons then defeated Carnegie Mellon University (12-11, 2-5) 25-13, 27-29, 25-20, 25-13 behind 18 kills from Trela and 11 from Smalls. Junior libero Samantha Brown (Louisville, Ky./ Mercy) collected 27 digs, and sophomore setter Nikki DelZenero (Hinsdale, Ill./ Hinsdale Central) was credited with 49 assists.
Chicago makes its final home appearance of the season Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Dominican University.
