BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Junior middle blockers Caroline Brander (River Forest, Ill./ Trinity) and Katie Trela (Glencoe, Ill./ Regina Dominican) collected 10 kills and eight block assists, respectively, as the 23rd-ranked University of Chicago volleyball team defeated host Illinois Wesleyan University 25-15, 25-20, 18-25, 25-22 Tuesday night.
With the victory, Chicago improved to 5-0 on the season.
Brander, who reached double digit kills for the first time this season, did not commit an error in 18 attempts. Over her last three matches, she has 26 kills against only one error in 52 attempts for a .481 percentage.
Senior outside hitters Isis Smalls (Humble, Texas/ Atascocita) and Colleen Belak (Louisville, Ky./ Presentation Academy) hit 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Belak also served three aces.
Junior libero Samantha Brown (Louisville, Ky./ Mercy Academy) was credited with a season-high 27 digs.
The Maroons travel to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for a two-day tournament beginning Friday evening.
