CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago volleyball team went 1-1 on the final day as hosts of the Gargoyle Classic on Saturday.
The No. 11-ranked Maroons ran their record to 12-4 after facing three other nationally ranked teams on the weekend.
Setter Nikki DelZenero was one of six honorees on the All-Tournament Team that was voted on by the coaches at the end of competition.
Chicago won its first match of the day 3-1 over Carroll University with scores of 20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-15. Maren Loe tallied double digits in kills (16) and digs (11) while collecting three blocks. Katie Huntington and Katie Trela were defensive presences at the net with three blocks each as the team finished with 12 blocks. DelZenero totaled 33 assists, 10 digs and four aces. Ragine Graves had a team-high 19 digs and Eirene Kim added 15 digs.
The Maroons dropped the day's second match 3-2 to No. 22-ranked Heidelberg University (20-25, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-8). Loe and Morgan Barry led the offense with 22 kills and 18 kills, respectively. Barry's all-around line also included five aces, 20 digs and four total blocks. DelZenero racked up 47 assists and 22 digs. Kim dished out seven assists and collected 8 digs. Samantha Brown finished with 12 digs.
The Maroons continue their homestand with a 7 PM match on Wednesday versus Benedictine University.
