CHICAGO, Ill. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Chicago volleyball team recorded a season-best hitting percentage of .447 in a 3-0 sweep of Lake Forest College on Wednesday.
The Maroons improved to 11-5 while the Foresters fell to 5-10.
UChicago jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set with an efficient offense. The home team looked sharp on the block and took advantage of Lake Forest miscues. The Maroons received contributions throughout the lineup and rolled through the rest of the first set 25-12.
The Foresters hung close early in the second set at 6-4 and got better looks on the attack. But the Maroons pulled away with a 9-3 run and maintained its lead en route to a 25-17 set win.
In the third set, UChicago continued its standout play by scoring 15 of the first 20 points. The Maroons shut down the edges with well-timed blocks and finished off the match 25-16.
UChicago scored 37 kills with only three errors on 76 attempts (.447 hitting percentage). The effort also featured seven team blocks and seven service aces.
