GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The University of Chicago volleyball team kept its hot streak going with a pair of 3-2 victories over Heidelberg University and Bethany College at day one of the Midwest Challenge on Friday. The No. 15-ranked Maroons (16-5) have now won six matches in-a-row.
UChicago had its hands full in the first match versus Heidelberg (11-10). The Student Princes jumped out to a lead by winning the first set 25-12. The Maroons got comfortable in the next two sets, taking them 25-17 and 25-18. Heidelberg then came back to grab the fourth set 25-18. In the decisive fifth set, UChicago clinched the victory 15-12.
During the course of the match, senior setter Nikki DelZenero broke the UChicago record for career assists. The previous record of 3,155 assists was held by Nikki Boddicker (2005-08).

In their second match of the day, the Maroons pulled out another five-set victory over Bethany (18-5). The Bison edged UChicago in the first set 25-23. Once again, the Maroons took two-straight sets 25-19 and 25-22. Bethany won the fourth set 25-20 to stay alive, but UChicago came up clutch in the fifth set with a 15-13 victory.
Junior libero Eirene Kim broke her own school record with 42 digs. DelZenero dished out a season-high 58 assists in the match.
