CHICAGO, Ill. -- Fresh off winning the first conference title in program history, six University of Chicago volleyball players were selected to the 2013 University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Association Team on Tuesday. Senior setter Nikki DelZenero and junior libero Eirene Kim were named the UAA Most Valuable Players.
The Maroons went 6-1 in conference play to earn the No. 1 seed at the UAA Championship on Nov. 8-9. They went on to defeat Emory University 3-1 in the finals to snag the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. As a result, UChicago Head Coach Vanessa Walby and her assistants were named the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for the second-consecutive season.
First Team All-UAA picks DelZenero and Kim were voted as league MVPs. In her senior season, DelZenero has totaled 988 assists (7.84 per set), 303 digs (2.40 per set) and 30 aces from her setter position. She is the school's all-time leader in career assists with 3,760.
Kim, a junior libero, owns the second-highest dig total in school history with 748 digs this year (5.80 per set). She also has distributed 139 assists (1.08 per set). Kim currently ranks second in school history in career digs (1,888).
The Maroons placed two players on the All-UAA Second Team. Katie Huntington, a senior rightside hitter, leads the squad with 324 kills (2.53 per set) while adding 103 digs (0.80 per set) and 42 blocks (0.33 per set). Maren Loe, a sophomore outside hitter, ranked right behind Huntington with 320 kills (2.56 per set) to go with 272 digs (2.18 per set), 62 blocks (0.50 per set) and 23 aces.
UChicago also had two Honorable Mention selections. Senior middle blocker Maggie Vaughn has recorded a team-best .310 hitting percentage and a team-high 106 blocks (0.83 per set) while spiking 275 kills (2.15 per set). Sophomore Jasmine Mobley has contributed 244 kills (2.18 per set) at outside hitter this season.
