ELMHURST, Ill. – The University of Chicago volleyball team was dominant on serve and rode several long offensive runs to sweep Carroll University and Benedictine University 3-0 at the Elmhurst College Quadrangular on Wednesday.
The Maroons evened their record at 3-3 on the year.
UChicago 3, Carroll 0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-14)
Junior outside hitter Maren Loe and senior outside hitter Morgan Barry tallied five kills apiece in the first set of the opening match. The two teams were tied at 13-13 when UChicago made its move and won the set 25-19. The Maroons then won 12 of the first 13 points in the second set and rode the momentum to a 25-11 set victory. UChicago led the third set wire-to-wire and a 10-2 run down the stretch clinched the match at 25-14.
The Maroons totaled 33 team kills compared to 18 kills by Carroll. UChicago was particularly effective on serves with 11 aces, including five by Loe and four by freshman outside hitter Makenzie Elder.

UChicago 3, Benedictine 0 (25-21, 25-5, 25-11)
In the second match versus Benedictine, the score was even midway through the first set once again at 14-14. Loe proceeded to serve up three-straight aces and ended the set with a kill at 25-21. The second set was all UChicago as the team went on a 19-2 run en route to a dominating 25-5 set victory. Elder was on serve for 13-straight points and tallied four aces in that time.
In the third and final set, the Maroons went on two separate runs of seven-straight points and wrapped up the match at 25-11. UChicago recorded a season-best .374 attack percentage and held Benedictine to a .021 attack percentage. Elder accounted for seven of the team's 13 aces – its most since Sept. 21, 2012 versus Carthage College (14).
