Maroon Volleyball Moves to 8-0 With Pair of Victories at Pizza Hut Classic

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Chicago volleyball team maintained its unbeaten start to the season, defeating St. Norbert College and host University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at Saturday's Pizza Hut Classic.

The Maroons improved to 8-0 on the year. At the event's conclusion, junior Anne Marie Stifter and sophomore Katherine Wilson were named to the All-Tournament Team.

UChicago 3, St. Norbert 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-22)

Offensively, UChicago fired on all cylinders in the opening match. The Maroons committed only five attack errors in three sets and hit for a season-best .469. The second set was particularly efficient with one error and a .517 team hitting percentage.

Stifter led the way on the outside with 10 kills on 17 attempts. Seniors Audrey Scrafford and Sarah Muisenga posted eight kills apiece. Wilson snagged 13 digs and three aces. Sophomore setter Emma Griffith totaled 32 assists, four aces and seven digs.

UChicago 3, Wisconsin-Oshkosh 1 (25-13, 25-21, 25-27, 25-15)

The Maroons broke away midway through the first set with a 13-3 closing run. UChicago then took the second set by a 25-21 margin and looked well on its way to finishing in three. The visitors held multiple match points, starting at 24-19, but the Titans dug in and racked up six-straight points and eventually stole the set, 27-25.

However, UChicago made quick work of the fourth set. The offense jumped out to a 16-3 lead and never looked back to close it 25-15.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh was held to a negative hitting percentage in the first and fourth sets, concluding with a .082 success rate overall in the match. The Maroons nearly doubled that at .156.

The balanced offense featured 11 kills by Scrafford, 10 by Muisenga and nine by junior Madison Pearson. Wilson posted 21 digs defensively, with 15 coming from Muisenga and 14 by first-year Temilade Adekoya. Griffith finished with 37 assists, 10 digs and three aces.
