Potent Offense Provides UChicago Volleyball with 3-1 Win Against Williams

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – An efficient offensive attack helped the University of Chicago volleyball team overwhelm Williams College 3-1 to close out the Illinois Wesleyan University Classic on Saturday.

The No. 19-ranked Maroons improved to 15-2 on the year. At the day's conclusion, junior middle hitter Madison Pearson and senior rightside hitter Sarah Muisenga were both picked to the All-Tournament Team.

UChicago 3, Williams 1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 25-9)

The Maroons steadily pulled away in the first set with a 6-1 closing run. But Williams stayed in contention in the second, utilizing three-straight points to even it up at 25-22. However, UChicago would not be denied. The third set was decided 25-22 and the fourth set turned into a formality as a 9-0 run helped the Maroons cruise to a 25-9 clincher.

The offense was on point once again, with hitting percentages of .355, .357 and .464 in the sets they won. Overall, UChicago scored at a .346 clip for the match.

Junior outside hitter Anabella Pinton crushed 18 kills with a .366 hitting percentage to pace the attack. Pearson maintained her torrid efficiency as well, hitting .526 with 13 kills and two aces. Muisenga added a double-double of 11 kills and 12 digs. First-year middle hitter Audra Berg contributed eight kills and five blocks.

Sophomore setter Emma Griffith surpassed the 50-assist threshold for the fourth time this season with 51. Sophomore libero Katherine Wilson's 18 digs led the defense, followed by 13 digs from junior outside hitter Anne Marie Stifter.
