WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Chicago volleyball team stretched its win streak to seven and made quick work of Wheaton College by a 3-0 margin on Tuesday night.
The No. 8-ranked Maroons improved to 19-2 overall. The Thunder fell to 10-8.
UChicago 3, Wheaton 0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17)
With her first kill of the night, senior rightside hitter Sarah Muisenga reached 1,000 career kills. Her senior teammate Audrey Scrafford achieved 1,000 kills on Sept. 1. The duo has combined for 2,122 kills over their four years.
UChicago seized control right away, reeling off an 11-point run to make it 11-3. Four kills were provided by junior outside hitter Anne Marie Stifter during that run. The visitors led by double digits at 20-10 and finished off the set soon after, 25-15.
After a 12-12 tie in the second set, UChicago won six of the next seven points. The set lead was soon 2-0 after the 25-19 win.
Once again, the Maroons showed its closing mettle with an 11-4 streak to finish the match at 25-17.
UChicago's offense executed efficiently all night with a .301 hitting percentage. Muisenga led the way with 12 kills on 22 attempts. She was followed by junior outside hitter Anabella Pinton (nine kills) and Stifter (eight kills). Sophomore setter Emma Griffith tallied 29 assists and six digs. First-year outside hitter Temilade Adekoya posted a team-high 11 digs and sophomore libero Katherine Wilson added 10 digs.
The defense finished with eight total blocks and Wheaton was limited to a .051 hitting percentage.
