CHICAGO – Three members of the University of Chicago volleyball team were named 2018 Honorable Mention All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The Maroons have totaled seven All-Americans in program history – all coming since 2010. This is their first year ever with multiple All-Americans.
Sophomore setter Emma Griffith concluded the season ranked second in NCAA Division III in total assists with 1,367. That total was the fourth-highest assist mark in school history. Along with her 10.94 assists per set, Griffith ranked second on the team with 44 service aces and 396 digs (3.17 per set). She finished with 39 blocks at the net as well. The setter guided her offense to a .244 team hitting percentage, which ranked 13th nationally.
Senior rightside hitter Sarah Muisenga was the top scorer on the outside, posting 330 kills (2.75 per set). The lefty hit .254 on the year while serving up 35 aces. Defensively, Muisenga contributed 358 digs (2.98 per set) and 37 blocks. She concluded her four-year career ranked No. 8 in kills (1,133), No. 10 in digs (1,157) and No. 11 in hitting percentage (.245) in the school record books.
Junior middle hitter Madison Pearson was the most efficient hitter on the team with a percentage of .339 – the fifth-highest mark in the program's single-season records. She put down 304 kills (2.45 per set) and was dangerous from the service line with 34 aces. On defense, she paced the team with 82 blocks while adding 124 digs.
