Volleyball Sweeps Through Millikin to Finish IWU Classic A Perfect 3-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Make it a nine-set sweep for the No. 9-ranked University of Chicago volleyball team, who shut out Millikin University 3-0 Saturday to cap a perfect weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan University Holiday Inn Express Classic.

The Maroons (6-1) beat the Big Blue (2-3) by scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 30-28 Saturday, a day after completing three-set sweeps over Hendrix and Otterbein Friday night.

Senior Anne Marie Stifter led the offense (.167) with nine kills and 12 digs and Fredericka Pauslon (seven digs) and Mikayla Hardy (six digs) added seven kills apiece. Junior setter Emma Griffith dished out a match-high 35 assists and added 14 digs.

The Maroons owned the net, recording 14 total block assists (four by first-year Ellie Alden) while holding MU to just eight. The Big Blue were also held under .100 in attack percentage at .096.

UChicago's serve was also strong with nine aces, led by four from Paulson. The first set saw the most efficient offense, as the Maroons totaled 16 kills and just five errors (.306).

Tori Stuart led Millikin with 10 kills in the loss.

At the conclusion of the weekend tournament, Griffith and senior middle blocker Madison Pearson were named to the All-Tournament Team.
