CHICAGO – The University of Chicago received four All-Region awards from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Thursday. Additionally, UChicago Head Coach Sharon Dingman was selected as the AVCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year.
Emma Griffith picked up her second-straight All-Region honor as the team's setter. The Maroons are hitting .226 as a team and rank seventh in the nation with 13.88 kills per set. Griffith ranks fourth in NCAA Division III with 11.21 assists per set. She leads the squad with 54 aces on the year. The junior is also averaging 3.20 digs and 0.41 blocks per set.
Madison Pearson earned her second-career All-Region accolade as well in her senior season. The middle hitter is second on the team in hitting percentage (.327) and third in kills per set at 2.54. Pearson stands second on the Maroons with 78 blocks (0.81 per set). She has also served up 23 aces.
Anne Marie Stifter was a first-time All-Region recipient as a senior. From her outside hitter position, Stifter is UChicago's lead attacker with 301 kills (3.04 per set), while standing second in digs at 3.49 per set. She is also responsible for 43 blocks and 23 aces.
Rookie Ellie Alden garnered Honorable Mention All-Region. The middle hitter boasts the top hitting efficiency on the team at .353, while posting 2.12 kills and a team-best 92 blocks.
Dingman was voted the Midwest Region Coach of the Year thanks to UChicago's record-breaking season. The Maroons (26-3 record) are making their third-straight NCAA postseason appearance and are hosting an NCAA Regional for the second year in-a-row. UChicago produced the longest undefeated streak in program history with 23-consecutive victories, and in the process earned its first-ever No. 1 national ranking in the AVCA poll.
