UChicago women's cross country wins UAA Championship

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The University of Chicago women's cross country team won the UAA Championship thanks to four runners placing in the top 10 on Saturday.

The Maroons won the team title handily at the Genessee Valley Park course with a team score of 37. New York University finished second with 96 points.

Julia Sizek, Elise Wummer, Michaela Whitelaw and Brianna Hickey all finished in the top eight individually. Sizek was the individual runner-up, running the 6K race in 21:57.7. Wummer was fifth in 22:36.6, Whitelaw was sixth in 22:37.0 and Hickey was eighth in 22:40.5.

Additionally, Chicago rounded out its top seven finishers with Maggie Cornelius in 16th (22:52.3), Catherine Young in 17th (22:54.5) and Sarah Peluse in 24th (23:08.4).

Sizek, Wummer and Whitelaw were named First Team All-UAA, while Hickey earned Second Team All-UAA and UAA Rookie of the Year honors. Head Coach Chris Hall and his assistant coaches were also named UAA Coaching Staff of the Year on the women's side.

The Chicago women have now won four of its seven cross country meets this year, with two additional runner-up finishes to their credit.
