ELMHURST, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's cross country team started its fall season with a sizable team victory at the Elmhurst College Invitational on Friday.
Chicago senior Julia Sizek was the individual winner in a time of 14:43.1 for a victory margin of 3.6 seconds. Overall, the Maroons placed five runners in the top 11 spots to win handily with 34 points. St. Francis University was a distant second with 72 points.
Elise Wummer finished fifth individually in 15:04.2, followed by Sarah Peluse in eighth place (15:08.3), Michaela Whitelaw in ninth place (15:09.9), Catherine Young in 11th place (15:10.5), Brianna Hickey in 17th place (15:29.1) and Maggie Cornelius in 22nd place (15:38.8).
The Maroons return to action at 5 PM next Friday at the Aurora University Invitational.
