CHICAGO – University of Chicago junior Michelle Dobbs and senior Brianna Hickey were both named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. The tandem was picked in the Cross Country / Track & Field Academic All-District category.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The All-District selections from the eight geographic regions advance to the national ballot, which will select Academic All-Americans in June.
Dobbs is a six-time All-American over the course of her three-year collegiate career. The junior runner recently captured the NCAA national championship in the indoor track 800 meters (2:11.34) on March 12. At the same meet, she also captured All-American honors as part of the eighth-place indoor distance medley relay (11:53.27). This season, she qualified for indoor and outdoor nationals in a combined five events, and was University Athletic Association (UAA) Champion in three events.
A three-time All-American in track, Hickey was also part of the All-American indoor distance medley relay that took eighth at NCAAs. She won two UAA titles this year as part of the indoor distance medley relay and outdoor 4x800-meter relay. In cross country, Hickey is a four-time All-Region selection who took 11th place at the 2015 NCAA Midwest Regional. The senior team co-captain was also a First Team All-UAA finisher in 2015.
