BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's cross country team won the team title at the Illinois Intercollegiates and the men placed fourth on Friday at Aspen Ridge Golf Course.
The women's 5K featured 13 teams and 140 total racers. The Maroons dominated the field with 29 points, while host Olivet Nazarene University was second with 75 points. All told, UChicago won its fourth-straight team race while placing eight runners in the top 18 spots. Leading the way was junior Khia Kurtenbach, who took runner-up in a time of 18:27.2. Junior Kelsey Dunn (fourth place) and senior Michelle Dobbs (fifth place) finished neck-and-neck with times of 18:59.2 and 18:59.9, respectively. Junior Cassidy McPherson was eighth (19:06.3) and senior Madeleine Horvath (19:16.8) snagged 10th place.
The men's 8K race also featured 13 teams with 216 participants. UChicago was fourth with 84 points. Olivet Nazarene was first with 40 points. Junior Peter Kreuch was the first Maroon across the finish line. He took 10th place in 26:42.3. Next in line were freshman Tim Koenning in 12th (26:45.0) and senior Nick Nielsen in 13th (26:46.0). Senior Eyal Hanfling also earned a top 20 finish, running a time of 26:50.0 to take 18th.
