WARRENVILLE, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's cross country team earned a team victory at the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday, with the Maroon men's squad finishing runner-up in the team standings.
UChicago's women finished first of 20 teams with 48 points scored. North Central College was second with 71 points. On the men's side, the Maroons were second of 21 teams with 81 points. Perennial national power North Central won with 66 points.
All told, five of the UChicago women placed in the top 15 to run away with the trophy. Junior Taylor Campos led the way at St. James Farm as she took fifth in the 6K race with a time of 23:18.0. Sophomore Annika Hildebrandt was a top 10 finisher, placing ninth in 23:46.7. The other top runners included first-year Hannah Zheng (11th), first-year Catherine Skubiz (13th) and sophomore Sophia Smith (15th).
The Maroon men were well represented in the lead pack with four placements in the top 20. Junior Gavin Fujimori produced his best career finish by crossing the line in fifth. His 8K race time was 26:04.1. Sophomore William Shine was next on the list in 12th with a time of 26:21.8, followed by first-year Jonah Estabrook (19th) and sophomore Jack Barbour (20th).
