COLFAX, Wis. — The University of Chicago men's and women's cross country squads made a strong showing at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regionals on Saturday, as both teams finished in the top six and combined for seven All-Region performances.
The women placed fourth overall with 118 points, claiming four All-Region spots. Sophomore Sophie Elgamal led the way (10th, 22:08.1), while sophomore Maggie Boudreau (21st, 22:36.4), junior Claire Brockway (23rd, 22:40.3), and sophomore Emma Dyer (25th, 22:42.3) all finished within four places and six seconds of each other.
Three Maroon men earned All-Region honors: sophomore Ryan Cutter (15th, 25:03.9), first-year Henry Myers (22nd, 25:18.7), and sophomore Chase Gardner (25:33.7). As a team, the men placed sixth with 166 points.
The NCAA Division III Championships will take place on November 17th at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Along with Myers' Top 25 finish, fellow UChicago first-year Sam Craig took 39th place to give the Maroon men the top two rookies in the 253-runner field.
Both teams will learn their national berth fates – both will be seeking an at-large berth – with Sunday's afternoon announcement of NCAA Division III Championship qualifying teams.
The NCAA Championships are set in Wineconne, Wis., on Saturday, Nov. 17.
