UChicago Cross Country Teams Earn Top 5 Finishes at KollegeTown Invite

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Both University of Chicago cross country teams churned out Top 5 finishes in a highly competitive field at Saturday's KollegeTown Invitational, hosted by University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The No. 2-ranked women, led by fifth-place finisher and senior captain Maggie Boudreau (22 minutes, 13 seconds), took second of 34 teams in the 6-kilometer race, finishing just behind rival and No. 3-ranked Washington-St. Louis.

The No. 10-ranked men – paced by junior Ryan Cutter's fourth-place finish (24:56) – came in fourth, as perennial national champion North Central (46 points) won the 8K team-field, followed by runner-up Pomona-Pitzer and third-place Wartburg.

The UChicago women kept to their pack mentality, as Claire Brockway took 10th, followed by Zoe Smith (22nd, 22:52), Sophie Elgamal (26th, 22:56), Leah Ulrich (27th, 23:00), Kaitlyn Van Baalen (28th, 23:00) and Caitlin Jorgensen (29th, 23:01).

On the men's side, junior Chase Gardner earned another Top-10 finish in ninth (25:12). The rest of the Maroon scoring came from Cy Chittenden (28th, 25:37), Gavin Fujimori (30th, 25:38), Charlie Nevins (34th, 25:41) Jack Barbour (48th, 25:57), and Caitlin Jorgensen (29th, 23:01).

The race was final event of the regular season, as UChicago gears up for the 2019 University Athletic Association Championships, held Saturday, Nov. 2 in Pittsburgh, Pa, with Carnegie Mellon serving as host.
