PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Bolstered by a strong pack that's keyed the University of Chicago women's cross country team all season, the Maroons took runner-up at the 2019 University Athletic Association Championships, held Satruday at Pittsburgh's Schenley Park.
Seniors captains Claire Brockway (fourth, 22:14) and Maggie Boudreau (fifth, 22:18) teamed up with junior Sophie Elgamal (seventh, 22:21) to give the Maroon women three first-team all-UAA honors and earned the squad second place (53 points) behind repeat champion WashU (24 points).
First-year Leah Ulrich (18th, 22:45) and junior Zoe Smith (19th, 22:45) rounded out the Maroon scoring five for a UChicago squad that's earned eight-straight Top 3 conference seasons, including four-straight runner-up finishes.
WashU's Paige Lawler ran away with medalist honors, pacing the field in a time of 21:49. The next finisher, her teammate Sophie Watterson, crossed the line 22 seconds later.
