CHICAGO – For the second-straight season, both University of Chicago cross country teams have qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, held Saturday, Nov. 23 in Louisville, Ky.
The UChicago women's second-place finish at last weekend's NCAA Midwest Regional – highlighted by seven All-Region honors – earned the Maroons an automatic berth into the championship field, the program's 15th overall and 10th straight.
Sophie Elgamal led the pack last Saturday, taking third with a 6-kilometer time of 22:13.
The Maroon men, led by Midwest Regional champion Ryan Cutter, earned their second-straight team berth with an at-large selection into the field. UChicago placed fourth at the regional meet to help the Maroons earn their 10th national appearance.
In 2018, the Maroon women placed 11th at the national meet and the men were 12th.
This year's races will be held at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The women's race is set for a 10:45 a.m. ET start with the men's to follow at 11:45 a.m. ET.
