Leo Kocher receives Norman Maclean Faculty Award

CHICAGO, Ill. – University of Chicago Head Wrestling Coach Leo Kocher was named among 14 individuals on Tuesday who will be honored at the upcoming 74th Annual Alumni Awards. Kocher will receive the Norman Maclean Faculty Award.

The alumni awards criteria website has the following description for the Norman Maclean Faculty Award: "Given for the first time in June 1997, the Norman Maclean Faculty Award honors emeritus or very senior faculty for extraordinary contributions to teaching and to the student experience of life within the University community. ... The candidate should have a long history with the University and have made a significant impact on at least two generations of students."

Kocher is wrapping up his 36th season leading the Maroon wrestling program. He has also served as a faculty member within the Department of Physical Education and Athletics. His teams have won 15 University Athletic Association (UAA) titles and finished in the top 15 at nationals on four occasions. Kocher has coached 22 All-Americans, including two-time national champion Peter Wang.

In 1993, Kocher received the John T. Wilson Award from the Undergraduate Order of the C.
