SOUTH BEND, IN- Led by
Evelyn Battleson-Gunkel, the University of Chicago Women's Cross Country team placed 3
rd in the Gold 5k Race at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday.
Battleson-Gunkel placed 7
th overall in 17:30.1. In the 161 runner field, UChicago had their top 5 place in the top 41, with
Elisabeth Camic (15
th-17:51.7),
Sophie Tedesco (31
st-18:05.0),
Caitlin Jorgensen (33
rd-18:08.4), and
Maddie Kelly (41
st, 18:20.0) scoring points for the Maroons.
The race featured 19 teams, all but one of which were NCAA Division I. UChicago scored 127 points to place 3
rd, behind Akron (115) and Richmond (123). Rounding out the top 10 were High Point (4
th-132), Santa Clara (152), James Madison (16), Oakland (167), St. Thomas-MN (200) Tulane (214) and Western Michigan (218).
UChicago competes on Saturday at the Ranger Open, hosted by University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The women's race begins at 12:30 PM.
