HOW IT HAPPENED
- Women's Singles
- Erica Ekstrand began play in the solo bracket and earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Johns Hopkins in the first round. She followed that up with another smooth 6-4, 6-1 win against UAA foe Emory in the quarterfinals but her luck would run out in the semis. It was there that her run came to an end with a 6-1, 2-6, 2-6 loss to Wesleyan.
- Clara Zou was the other Maroon to make it to Georgia and coasted over the first two rounds with 6-4, 6-2 (Babson) and 6-1, 6-2 (NYU) wins. Another Emory opponent waiting in the semifinals for Zou but she wasn't phased with 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 wins to move onto the championship match. Unfortunately, the same Wesleyan opponent that took out Ekstrand also took out Zou for the women's single title in a 1-6, 3-6 defeat.
- Women's Doubles
- The Mikos sisters took on pairs play for UChicago and earned a first-round win over Gustavus Adolphus in a marathon 6-7, 6-3, 16-14 win. However, Sylwia and Oliwia couldn't pull off the win in back-to-back matches as they fell 6-3, 6-7, 8-10 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
- Men's Doubles
- Emil Grantcharov and Derek Hsieh were the lone representatives for the Maroon men and tried to go the distance in doubles action. They grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 first round win over Trinity before coming from behind for a 3-6, 6-2, 12-10 victory over their competitors from UW-Whitewater. Their quest for the title would end in the semifinals as they fell 2-6, 6-7 to Tufts.
