HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. No. 19 Kenyon
- No. 2 University of Chicago (3-0) began the weekend with a neutral site battle against No. 19 Kenyon (0-1), their first ranked opponent of the dual season. The Maroons easily dispatched the Owls in doubles play and took three points to begin the afternoon.
- Needing just two points for the win, UChicago won singles matches two through four and in the number six spot as well. Kenyon was able to grab victories in the first and fifth slots by winning in third set tiebreaks, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Maroons from moving to 2-0 on the season.
- vs. DePauw
- UChicago continued their weekend by traveling to Greencastle the next day to take on the Tigers of DePauw (0-2). The Maroons repeated their performance in doubles from Saturday and won all three points with the closest game coming in the second spot during an 8-3 win.
- It was complete domination by the Maroons on the singles side. Chicago came away with all six matchups and collected 11 sets by either 6-0 or 6-1 scores on their way to staying perfect on the season.
CHICAGO COMMENTS
- Head coach Jay Tee on the Kenyon match: "Kenyon is a really good team, and they gave a great effort and fight throughout the match. I was encouraged by our progress from last week and really happy with how we responded when pushed. Oliwia and Shianna continue to compete at a very high level and gave us two quick singles points while Lauren was cooking for the second straight week. I thought Rena and Nika played well from behind and continued to problem solve and compete, playing their best when it mattered most at the business end of sets.
- Head coach Jay Tee on the DePauw match: "The entire team put forth another great effort versus DePauw today. It was an early start after a long match yesterday afternoon, but we still came out with focus and intensity as expected. We had both feet firmly in Greencastle and really handled our business in a workmanlike way. It was a great conclusion to successful road swing heading into our bye weekend and now we are poised for a strong finish to the winter quarter."
