HOW IT HAPPENED
- No. 8 University of Chicago (8-1) opened the 2024 ITA Indoor National Championships with a match against top ranked Case Western Reserve on Friday. The Maroons dropped the doubles point after losing all three matches but still gave themselves a chance when action switched over the singles. Emil Grantcharov, Derek Hsieh, and Arjun Asokumar were able to win the first three solo duals, but the Maroons couldn't find the go ahead point in their 4-3 loss to the Spartans.
- Dropping down to the consolation bracket, UChicago dominated No. 11 Sewanee on Saturday with a 6-1 victory. They took all three doubles games and the only point they gave up to the Tigers was out of the top singles position in their 6-1 win.
- Sunday would be a battle for fifth place at the tournament and their opponent ended up being No. 12 Gustavus Adolphus. The Gusties came away with the double point to start the morning, but it was almost all Maroons after that. Ajer Sher and Marek Michulka each took home wins to go along with victories from Hsieh and Asokumar as Chicago won the match to finish 2-1 on the weekend with a 4-2 victory.
