#3 Women's Tennis Moves On To Semifinals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – No. 3 University of Chicago resumed play in the 2024 NCAA women's tennis tournament with a quarterfinals matchup against No. 6 Johns Hopkins after a week away from the hardcourt. The break didn't do anything to the Maroons momentum however as they grabbed their second shutout victory of the tournament to advance to the semifinals.

RESULT
No. 6 Johns Hopkins – 0
No. 3 UChicago – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • No. 3 University of Chicago (21-1) dominated No. 6 Johns Hopkins (20-5) in doubles play to set up a relatively easy journey through singles action. The Blue Jays were unable to score more than two points in any of the three matches as the Maroons were able to roll to an 8-2 victory in the top pairs spot before posting back-to-back 8-1 wins in two and three.
  • Lin gave the Maroons their fourth point of the afternoon with duplicate 6-3 wins in the top singles spot leaving the Maroons just one match away from advancing. That securing point came from Guo who won her first set before coming away with a third frame tiebreak after dropping the middle stanza in a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 victory to give UChicago the 5-0 shutout win.
    • No. 1 Singles: Rena Lin defeats Hurley 6-3, 6-3
    • No. 5 Singles: Shianna Guo defeats Langer 6-1, 2-6, 6-1
WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons will now move on to challenge No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer with a spot in the national championship match on the line. UChicago defeated the Sagehens earlier this season via a 5-2 score in the ITA Indoor tournament. Their newest battle will take place tomorrow at 4:00 pm.
