#13 Wrestling Hosts #13 Wabash in Home Opener on Friday Night

CHICAGO -- The 13th-ranked University of Chicago men's wrestling team returns to action on Friday night with their first dual meet of the 2025 season. The Maroons host #13 Wabash at Henry Crown Fieldhouse on Friday at 7 PM.

#13 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO NOTES:

* The 13th-ranked University of Chicago wrestling team opened the season with a first-place finish at the Jim Fox Invitational at Dubuque.
* The Maroons also competed at the Trine Invitational with nine different wrestlers earning first-place finishes.
* The Maroons earned a 24th-place finish at the NCAA Championships last season after Sean Conway earned All-American honors with a runner-up finish in the 141-pound weight class.
* Conway enters the season as the #2 ranked wrestler in the country in the 141-pound class, and he has opened the season with a perfect 8-0 record and a pair of event titles.
* Conway also earned the UAA Athlete of the Week award after becoming just the second wrestler in the past 12 years of UChicago wrestling to win 100 career matches.
* Maksim Mukhamedaliyev joined Conway as the two Maroons to win titles in the first two meets of the year. The freshman from Arlington Heights, Illinois sits at 8-0 to start his collegiate career.
* Two more Maroons reached the championship matches in their respective classes in one of the first two meets including Jackson Rustad (131), Xavier Ortega (141), and Jackson Davis (184).
* Following the dual with Wabash College, the Maroons will travel to Concordia (WI) for their third invitational of the season on Saturday, November 22.

#13 WABASH COLLEGE NOTES:

* Wabash College opened their season last weekend with the Millikin Open Tournament.
* The Little Giants earned one individual championship and had five wrestlers finish top-3 in their weight classes.
* James Day earned the title last weekend in the 133-pound weight class with a 5-0 record. Day enters the year ranked as the #1 wrestler in the country in the 133-pound class.
* Titus Waters is the lone other Little Giant to open the season in the national rankings. Waters is ranked #8 in the 285-pound weight class, but he did not compete in the opening weekend.
* Andrew Punzalan added a second-place finish in the opening invite with a 4-1 record in the 125-pound division. He ranks as the #6 wrestler in Region 5.
* Three more Little Giants added third-place finishes in the invite including Hadyn Ball (197), Jalen Young (174) and Mason Weyant (141).
* Other Little Giants coming into the season ranked in the regional rankings include Ayden Lutes (#6 - 157), Cooper McCloy (#5 - 165), Young (#3 - 174), and Zack Huckaby (#5 - 184).
* Following their dual meet with the Maroons, Wabash will join UChicago at the Concordia (WI) Invitational on Saturday, November 22.
