CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago wrestling team earned a top-25 dual win over #13 Wabash in its home opener at the Crown Fitness Center.
Matthew Barlay opened up the match with a win for the Maroons in a battle that went to sudden victory. Barlay secured the win 3-1 and set the tone for how the rest of the meet would go for Chicago.
A few duals later, the Maroons earned back-to-back wins as
Sean Conway proved again why he is the #2 in his 141 weight class. Getting the 9-2 decision win, Conway helped his Maroons take the 6-4 lead.
Maksim Mukhamedaliyev followed quickly behind, putting on an impressive performance with a 15-4 major decision win.
Daniel Gunlogson showed great control, winning by another major decision 12-1.
Jackson Davis and
Gunnar Garriques secured two more wins for Chicago on technical falls. Both earned commanding 15-0 victories to help the Maroons cruise to the dual win over Wabash.
The 13th-ranked Maroons will return to action on Saturday, November 22, as they head to Mequon, Wisconsin for the Concordia (WI) Tournament.
