Box Score 2 This past weekend, the University of Chicago's top-ranked women's tennis team (National #1) maintained their perfect season with a 6-1 victory over the University of Milwaukee and a 7-0 victory over DePauw University.
vs. Milwaukee
Singles Highlights: UChicago's Sylwia Mikos secured a thrilling 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory against Milwaukee's Nadiia Konieva in a tight, back-and-forth battle. Mikos' resilience in the tiebreaker proved the difference.
However, Milwaukee found success with Nikola Nikolajeva, who dominated Isabelle Chong of UChicago 6-0, 6-4, showcasing strong form.
UChicago then quickly seized momentum, with Nicole Geller defeating Laure Razet 6-2, 6-2, and Clara Zou taking down Sara Simonova 6-3, 6-3. The Maroons' Oliwia Mikos continued the trend with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Emilia Durska, while Brooke Pedersen completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Elisa Rubio.
Doubles Action: In doubles play, the Milwaukee team of Konieva and Nikolajeva earned a victory over Sylwia and Oliwia Mikos, 6-1, in a statement win. However, UChicago came back strong in the other doubles matches, with Shanna Guo and Lauren Khou defeating Laure Razet and Sara Simonova 6-2. The pairing of Isabelle Chong and Charlotte Klein also triumphed over Emilia Durska and Giorgia Cavestro 6-2, sealing the team's overall victory.
Team Standings:
- UChicago moves to a perfect 4-0, continuing their dominance in the national rankings.
- Milwaukee, on the other hand, stands at a balanced 3-3.
vs. DePauw
In a separate match, UChicago showcased their dominance in singles and doubles as they went up against DePauw. UChicago's pairs, including Shanna Guo and Lauren Khou, as well as Charlotte Klein and Sarena Biria, were impressive in their victories, while UChicago's singles players, such as Pedersen and Yuan, clinched wins, continuing their undefeated streak.
With a series of strong performances, UChicago's women's tennis team proves why they hold a top spot in the national rankings and will be a force to reckon with in upcoming weeks.
