Richards, Costello, Vernhes Earn Individual UAA Championships, Allen Named Diver of the Year, Teams Finish Third

ATLANTA -On the final day of the UAA Championships, our swimming and diving teams delivered outstanding performances, culminating in both teams securing 3rd place overall. On the final day, the teams captured 4 UAA Championships, 8 All-UAA Performances and 6 school records. Starting the charge was Lauren Richards' school record-breaking victory in the Women's 1650 Free to set the momentum for the session. Two events later, Sebi Vernhes' claimed his 2nd title of the meeting with a victory in the Men's 100 Free Championship and a UAA record. Cooper Costello ended the individual events for the championships, with a dominant win in the 200 Fly, setting a UAA Record and achieving an NCAA A Cut. Our relay teams also excelled, with the Men's 400 Free Relay team winning by 3 seconds, setting a new UAA record and claiming the top time in Division III.  At the conclusion of the meet, Sumiye Allen was named Women's Diver of the Year and Coach Jeff Mitchem was named Women's Diving Coach of the Year. 

Women's 3M Diving: Lilia Atanda secured the 2nd position with an impressive score of 472.00, earning All UAA honors. Sumiye Allen finished 5th with a score of 446.60, followed closely by Cynthia Tang and Danielle Killeen, both tied for the 6th position, scoring 437.45.

Women's 1650 Free: Lauren Richards clinched 1st place with a remarkable time of 16:54.43, breaking the school record and achieving an NCAA B Cut with a personal best improvement of 15 seconds. Samantha Bertschi finished 8th with a time of 17:29.11, while Charlotte Eckert finished 14th, clocking 17:45.32.

Men's 1650 Free: Isaac Kim secured 7th place with an NCAA B Cut time of 15:50.96. Following closely, Christopher Mo finished 9th with a time of 15:51.23, and Marcell Milo-Sidlo completed the race in 10th place with a time of 15:55.55.

Women's 200 Back: Elisabella Forest earned All UAA honors by finishing 2nd with an NCAA B Cut time of 2:00.50. Ioanna Georgopoulou secured 10th place, setting a personal best with an NCAA B Cut time of 2:01.65. Addie Diaz and Kaitlyn Liu finished 14th and 20th with times of 2:04.64 and 2:06.42, respectively.

Men's 200 Back: John Butler finished 5th with an NCAA B Cut time of 1:47.83. Robert Quan and Pierre Chan finished 20th and 22nd with times of 1:53.45 and 1:54.71, respectively.

Women's 100 Free: Emily Xu finished 2nd with a record-breaking time of 50.20, setting a new school record and achieving All UAA honors and an NCAA B Cut. Karen Zhao secured 7th place with a time of 51.31, also making the NCAA B Cut. Sophia Lee finished 13th at 52.19, while Genesee Quon came in 17th with a time of 51.20.

Men's 100 Free: Sebi Vernhes claimed 1st place with a time of 43.63, breaking the UAA and school records, and earning the title of UAA Champion along with an NCAA B Cut. Rylan Kruep finished 7th at 45.35, Alex Schwartz came in 9th at 45.02, and Igor Benderskii placed 10th with a time of 45.10. Jonathan Tang and Ben Catton rounded out the lineup, finishing 11th and 12th with times of 45.25 and 45.31, respectively.

Women's 200 Breast: Ella McEver secured 5th place with an NCAA B Cut time of 2:19.37, while Alicia Soosai finished 9th with a time of 2:18.43, also meeting the NCAA B Cut. Mckenzie LeBlanc placed 14th with a time of 2:22.35.

Men's 200 Breast: Tristan Ide achieved a personal best, finishing 5th with an NCAA B Cut time of 1:59.98. Christopher Xia came in 7th with a time of 2:01.75, and Dylan Danaie finished 22nd at 2:06.92.

Women's 200 Fly: Karina Hartounian placed 15th with a time of 2:08.47, and Frankie Callahan finished 17th with a time of 2:09.30.

Men's 200 Fly: Cooper Costello dominated the 200 Fly, setting a UAA record with an impressive time of 1:44.31, achieving an NCAA A Cut, School Record and a personal best, making it the top time in Division III. Junichiro Asano finished 6th with an NCAA B Cut time of 1:48.99.

Women's 400 Free Relay: The A Relay team comprising Emily Xu, Genesee Quon, Sophia Lee, and Karen Zhao finished 3rd with a time of 3:23.70, earning All UAA honors and an NCAA B Cut. The B Relay team featuring Annabel Olivo, Addie Diaz, Julia Polsky, and Elisabella Forest finished 11th with a time of 3:30.41.

Men's 400 Free Relay: The A Relay team, consisting of Cooper Costello, Igor Benderskii, John Butler, and Sebi Vernhes, secured 1st place with a record-breaking time of 2:55.11, earning the title of UAA Champion and an NCAA B Cut, making it the top time in Division III. The B Relay team, including Ben Catton, Jonathan Tang, Alex Schwartz, and Rylan Kruep, finished 9th with an NCAA B Cut time of 2:58.84.
