Box Score CHICAGO - The University of Chicago men's tennis team recorded another 7-0 weekend facing the Firebirds from Carthage College. The Maroons, who currently sit at No. 1 in ITA DIII standings for men's tennis are showing why they remain at the top.
Doubles:
The Maroons got off to a great start with the #2 doubles team of
Emil Grantcharov and
Derek Hsieh putting away their opponents 6-2. Seniors
Pat Otero and
Andrei Leonov bested the Carthage #1 doubles team 6-4 to clinch the doubles point. Shortly after, Junior
Jack Wong and Senior
Jacob Lowen won 6-2 for the Maroons.
Singles:
With the 1-0 lead going into singles.
Michael Choi was off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the #4 singles spot. Up next was
Derek Hsieh who won 6-2, 6-1 at the #1 singles position. To clinch the match for the Maroons' lead to 4-0, Junior
Jack Wong won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore
Ajer Sher battled back after dropping the first set to take the match in a 3
rd set super tiebreaker.
Emil Grantcharov battled to a 6-4, 7-6 victory at the #2 position. To give the Maroons the 7-0 victory, Sophomore
Matthew Liew won the first set 6-2 and the second set 6-0.

The Maroon will travel to St. Peter, Minnesota, for the ITA Indoor Championships. They will play Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday, 2/21, at 6:30 p.m.
