NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The University of Chicago men's and women's track and field teams recorded impressive results while competing at the Chicagolands Invite over this past weekend. The team was highlighted by
Simon Dixon Jr. who broke a 30-year-old UChicago record in the men's weighted throw.
Clara Bennett also bested her opponents by recording a first place finish in the high jump.
Women's Recap:
In the sprints, sophomore
Arielle Troadec led the team with an impressive 8.00 in the 60 meters, securing a solid 11th place in the preliminaries. She also clocked a time of 26.76 in the 200 meters, finishing 8th overall. Freshman
Alexandra Watson made her presence felt in the same event with a time of 26.93, finishing 10th.
In the 400 meters,
Onese Ewherido, another sophomore, posted a time of 1:02.16, finishing 11th, while teammates
Emma Blodgett (1:02.66) and
Alexa Shepherd (1:03.50) also contributed solid performances. The team's 4x400 meter relay squads had a strong showing, with the A team (
Christin Facey,
Alexa Shepherd,
Onese Ewherido,
Emma Blodgett) taking 2nd place in 4:05.93, while the B team (
Anna Watson,
Camila Garanton,
Rachel Singer,
Nicole Roesler) finished in 8th place with 4:16.64.
In the middle-distance events,
Anna Watson posted a strong 3rd place finish in the mile with a time of 4:59.96, while her teammates
Rachel Singer (5:03.87) and
Page Cassidy (5:18.86) also contributed to a well-rounded effort.
Sophie Tedesco led the way in the 5000 meters, taking 1st place with a time of 17:50.43, while
Maggie Horn (17:58.41) and
Eva Devlin (18:25.17) also secured top finishes.
On the field side,
Clara Bennett tied for 1st place in the high jump with a mark of 1.49m (4' 10.5"), and Sammi Dunn finished 10th with 1.54m. Freshman
Sophie Menon earned a strong 2nd place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.18m (10' 5.25"), while junior
Celeste Taylor and junior
Reece Baker both cleared 3.33m (10' 11") to finish 5th and 6th, respectively.
In the long jump,
Marina Semple led the way with a mark of 5.48m (17' 11.75") for 6th place, while junior
Brooke Millar jumped 5.34m (17' 6.25") for 9th, and freshman
Alexandra Watson hit 5.29m (17' 4.25") for 10th.
In the shot put, sophomore
Rielley McNeill threw 11.86m (38' 11") for 3rd place, while
Blair Penn added a 11th place finish with 10.05m (32' 11.75"). McNeill also had a standout performance in the weight throw, where she recorded 12.17m (39' 11.25") for 13th place.
Overall, the University of Chicago women's track and field team showcased excellent depth across multiple events, with key performances from athletes in both the sprints and distance events, as well as impressive results in the field events. The team's solid contributions reflect their ongoing strength and teamwork heading into future competitions.
Men's Recap:
The UChicago men's track and field team had several strong performances across different events. In the 60 meters,
Myles Xavier (SR-4) ran a 6.95 in the finals, earning 3rd place, after a 6.96 finish in the preliminaries, where he also placed 3rd. John Lui (FR-1) finished 12th in the prelims with a time of 7.11. In the 200 meters, Xavier again led the team, finishing 5th in 22.77, while Lui was 11th with 23.04.
Jackson Giampa (SO-2) was 22nd with 23.33, and Zach Montbach (FR-1) came in 29th at 23.48.
In the 400 meters, Nathaniel Stuit (FR-1) claimed the top spot with a time of 50.92, while
Isaac Dienstag (SR-4) finished 3rd in 51.07.
Tyson Fuller (FR-1) ran 51.63 for 7th.
Ethan Harper (SR-4) finished 11th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.99, and Alec Stein (SO-2) ran 2:46.00 for 5th in the 1000 meters.
In the mile,
John List (SR-4) ran a 4:17.73 for 3rd place, followed by
Malcolm McCormick (JR-3) who placed 5th in 4:20.19.
Quint Stein (SO-2) and
Vincent Crenshaw (SO-2) finished 7th and 8th with times of 4:23.20 and 4:23.46, respectively.
Caleb Krueger (SR-4) finished 13th with 4:30.24.
Isaac Cohen (FR-1) placed 4th in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:46.12, while
Zane Gillan (SR-4) ran 8:52.18 for 6th.
Matthew Lund (FR-1) finished 11th in 9:07.23, and
Charlie Phelan (FR-1) placed 12th in 9:07.80.
In the 5000 meters,
Sanju Patel (SO-2) dominated, winning the race in 14:45.77, with
Spencer May (JR-3) taking 2nd in 15:02.61 and
Liam Eifert (SO-2) finishing 3rd in 15:16.98.
Gavin Fowler (SR-4) ran 15:51.02 for 10th place.
In the 60 hurdles,
Andrew Ray (SR-4) took 1st place in the finals with a time of 8.54, with
Matthew Ho (SO-2) and Owen Mays (FR-1) following close behind in 2nd and 3rd with times of 8.65 and 8.66, respectively.
Kyle Obermeyer (SO-2) also ran well, finishing 5th in 8.67.
In the 4x400 relay, UChicago had strong performances, with the A team (Ray, Showman, Fuller, and Dienstag) winning with a time of 3:25.51, while the B team (Obermeyer, Morris, Montbach, Mays) placed 5th in 3:29.89.
In field events, Imran Serifovic (FR-1) led the high jump, winning with a mark of 2.03 meters (6' 7.75").
Aryan Shrivastava (JR-3) placed 4th at 1.93 meters (6' 4"), and Josh Eckman (SR-4) was 9th with 1.83 meters (6' 0"). In the pole vault,
Brandon Shin (SR-4) cleared 4.28 meters (14' 0.5") for 5th place, while
William Floyd (SO-2) did not clear a height.
In the long jump,
Jackson Giampa (SO-2) recorded a mark of 6.70 meters (21' 11.75") to place 5th, and Seyi Kadiri (JR-3) was 21st with a mark of 6.03 meters (19' 9.5"). Kadiri also had a solid performance in the triple jump, earning 3rd place with a jump of 14.06 meters (46' 1.5").
Daniel Hernandez (FR-1) placed 11th in 13.10 meters (42' 11.75"), while
Alexander Burt (SO-2) finished 22nd at 11.29 meters (37' 0.5").
In the shot put,
Simon Dixon (JR-3) claimed 1st with a throw of 15.81 meters (51' 10.5"), followed by
Andrew McGallian (SR-4) in 5th with 14.43 meters (47' 4.25").
Michael Nelson (JR-3) was 28th with a throw of 10.99 meters (36' 0.75"). Finally, in the weight throw, Dixon again took 1st place with a mark of 18.15 meters (59' 6.75%), while
Brian Chin (FR-1) and McGallian placed 10th and 12th with marks of 14.05 meters (46' 1.25") and 14.01 meters (45' 11.75"), respectively.
