Matt Gentry, the head coach of the University of Chicago men's wrestling team was named the NWCA Rookie Coach of the Year on Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Division III Championships.
Gentry was named the head coach for the in August of 2024, and he helped lead the team to an incredible first season at the helm. The former National Champion and Olympic qualifier helped lead
Sean Conway to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Championship over the weekend as the team brought home a 24th place finish in the meet.
The Stanford graduate also led the Maroons to a 5-3 overall record in dual meets and their second consecutive 2nd place finish in the UAA Championships. The season included one All-American, three NCAA Championship qualifiers, and six placement finishes in the Region V Championships.
