Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team came up just short in the finals of the Stag-Hen Open with a 4-3 loss to #1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The loss is just the second of the seas for the Maroons with both coming by a 4-3 scoreline to the Stags.

In doubles play, the Stags were able to earn the opening point in the match with wins in two of the three matches.

In singles play, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps jumped out to a big advantage early on with wins at #1 and #5 singles, leaving the Stags just one point away from winning the match. The Maroons would get on the board with their opening point at #6 singles as Matthew Liew took the 6-3, 6-3 victory.

The remaining three matches all headed to a third set with the overall match up for grabs. Michael Choi was able to pull out the win 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 at #4 singles to cut the lead to one at 3-2. This left Alexander Ekstrand and Derek Hsieh on the court with a chance for a dramatic 3-0 comeback still on the table. Both matches at #2 and #3 singles went into a third-set tiebreak, but the Maroons were only able to pick up one win as they fell 4-3 in the match. Derek Hsieh held on at #3 singles for the 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 victory, but Alexander Ekstrand came up short with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 loss at #2 singles.

With the loss, the Maroons fall to 13-2 on the season. The UChicago tennis team returns to action on Saturday, March 29 as they travel to Carnegie Mellon for a UAA showdown.
